The Exchange explores the family dynamic of a recently divorced couple. It centers on Dad, a down-on-his-luck father struggling through the emotional process of sharing joint custody of his children with his ex-wife and her new man.
DAD, MALE, AGE: 30-45, Lead
A recent divorcé fighting the permanence of losing his wife. Although outwardly defeated, he is the only champion of his former family who doggedly, and obliviously, fights for what was. Dad is an average-looking man who has let himself go for years.
SAMANTHA, FEMALE, AGE: 30-40, Lead
A woman who tries too hard to demonstrate she’s moved on from her marriage. Although pretty, she is a few pounds overweight now in her 30s. She is confident, but somewhat handicapped by her small-town ambitions.
CHRIS, MALE, AGE: 25-30, Supporting
A young, attractive, and deadbeat man high on the life he has recently found with Samantha. He is uneducated and a metrosexual wannabe.
BOY, MALE, AGE: 5-10, Supporting
A whiney boy who has grown up, thus far, getting whatever he wants. He, like his sister, is primarily interested in himself and getting back to the fun of being away from Dad.
JAMIE, FEMALE, AGE: 13-17, Supporting
The stereotypical teen who is self-absorbed and always on her phone. She has lost all respect for Dad and pays him no mind.
